Las polillas fantasma

Ghost moths

Michael Coley-Smith
Londrés, Inglaterra

The field is alive with moths, dancing in moonlight,
a shimmering net cast over
the black mass of the rough playground.

I climb the fence where the palings are broken
and stand among them. They sway
knee-high about me, pale above the tussocks.

Beyond the gardens the houses shrink into the dark,
lighted windows glowing.

A dog barks at the moon. I am the dog that replies.
I stand, my arms outstretched, the field spinning.
Around me ghost moths,
floating up and down, side to side.
